Purpose of Sabbath School
Sabbath School exists: To Teach -- To Train -- To Send
Sabbath School is the ‘Gateway’ of the church; the first place where
members and visitors learn about the love of God and the promise of the
Gospel fulfilled in Christ our Saviour. Church is the place where
we gather to worship and to learn to become Disciples of Christ.
It is the place where we are to be nurtured, trained, and prepared for
our ministry.
Our ministry is to fulfil the ‘gospel commission’,
‘Go ye therefore and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of
the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit…’(Matt.
28:19). To fulfil this commission we need to study God’s word
individually and collectively. Sabbath School is the place for
collective Bible study. My prayer is that we will all continue to
study God’s word, to attend Sabbath School and continue to be ‘doers of
the word’ thus fulfilling God’s purpose for the church. My
promise is to work with everyone to ensure that the Sabbath School
fulfils its purpose to support and realizes the gospel commission.
Role of the Sabbath School Director
My overall responsibility as Adult Sabbath School Director is to further develop the Adult Sabbath School within the North England Conference (this also includes young adults), building on the good work that has been done so far and working in line with the TED and GC Sabbath School Directors.
The Five Strategic Goals for Sabbath School
- Every Sabbath School Teaching the Word
- Every member studying and learning the Word
- Every class sharing the Word through community outreach
- Every member living the Word through a real relationship with God and by building Christian relationships with each other and the communities where they live
- Every member spreading the Word by supporting world-wide missions
