Photo courtesy of Immanuel Musavengana Seventh-day Adventists have certain highpoints in worship – with the baptism service probably the highlight. Wellingborough Seventh-day Adventist Church, who meet in rented property sectioned off from the granoVita warehouse premises have had two baptism before, but the second baptism was just that little more special as it saw the membership preparing for their first baptism in their own church home.

The candidates, young people from the Church, Givens, Takudzwa and Tinotende Bere, Lencia Ryan and Alana Bramble have found the church to be an extension of their family as well as a place where they can thrive in Christian inspired activity. The decision to seek baptism was followed by Bible studies – notably in Sabbath School – often led by Senior Church Elder Charles Bramble – and accompanied by opportunities to serve God and His people in worship, witness and fellowship.

The baptism itself was conducted in the youth hall of the church in a portable pool borrowed from the North England Conference Pathfinders. The membership gathered close to the pool creating a wonderfully intimate service. Each candidate was introduced to members and friends who knew the young people very well. Then each immersion was conducted by Church Pastor and a chosen member who had been a significant influence in the life of each young person.

That morning’s service lasted a good while longer than most Sabbath morning services but focussed much on the idea of a sincere welcome into the family. Prior to the well recognised ceremony we call ‘receiving the right hand of fellowship’ the candidates were issued with a charge from Pastor Doug Batchelor who had written from California urging each young person to be involved in service and evangelism.

Our young people will be involved in the life of the Church – indeed they already are. Lencia teaches in Sabbath School and works with Pathfinders, Alana has given Bible studies, Takudzwa is respected for his wisdom and commitment to service while Tino can often be found helping with regular Sabbath morning worship. Givens, on the morning of her baptism took a leading role in Sabbath School.

In other words, the Wellingborough Church is well fitted for future growth in numbers, service and spirituality.”
