Many people touched by the news of the unfolding disaster in the Caribbean island of Haiti due to a category 7 earthquake and numerous aftershocks, have been asking how they can help. The UN reports that presently the priority need is water, food, and shelter and first aid/medical supplies. The Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) international is releasing funds immediately to assist in relief work and is seeking to raise $500,000 over the next seven days to further its aid and relief activities in Haiti.
As in past you can put your gift in an offering envelope, clearly marked 'Haitian Disaster relief' and drop it in the offering plate at your local church (churches may also want to collect a special offering) or send your cheque directly to ADRA UK at the BUC Offices in Watford. You can also donate online.
We have been advised not to send items of clothing or food at this time.
Let us reach out and help our brothers and sisters in their moment of need remembering the words of Jesus; “whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.” (Matthew 25:40 NIV)
For more information, please read the Haiti update on the ADRA website.
