If your church was shut down, would the community notice? What program or service would they demand that you continue and why?
Matthew 9:35 tasks the church with
R - Restoration
E - Education
A - Adoration
P - Proclamation
God has commissioned us as Seventh-day Adventists to proclaim the Three Angels’ Messages of Revelation 14:6-12 and another angel’s message of Revelation 18:1-4.
Pastor Don McIntosh of the Amazing Facts School of Evangelism has many years experience of integrating health ministry and the gospel. For fifteen years in Wichita Kansas Pr. McIntosh incorporated the Coronary Health Improvement Project into his churches annual cycle of evangelism bringing many people to baptism. Come and learn how to conduct health ministry in a way that leads people to Christ on Thursday 11th February 7.30 – 9pm at the Yardley Church Berkley Road East Hay Mills Birmingham.
Our various health ministry programmes, Breathe Free (stop Smoking), stress management, cooking schools Newstart, the Coronary Health Improvement Project, God’s Plan and Celebrations seek to improve and touch the lives of people as Jesus did, Christ’s Method MH p 143. They Restore, Educate, enable Adoration and Restoration. These programmes are forms of medical missionary work.
“Again and again I have been instructed that the medical missionary work is to bear the same relation to the work of the third angel’s message that the arm and hand bear to the body. Under the direction of the divine Head they are to work unitedly in preparing the way for the coming of Christ. The right arm of the body of truth is to be constantly active, constantly at work, and God will strengthen it. But it is not to be made the body. At the same time the body is not to say to the arm: ‘I have no need of thee.’ The body has need of the arm in order to do active, aggressive work. Both have their appointed work, and each will suffer great loss if worked independently of the other.” – Ellen G. White, Testimonies, vol. 6, page 288.
Paul says in Phil. 3:17-19 “Brethren, join in following my example, and note those who so walk, as you have us for a pattern. For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ: whose end is destruction, whose god is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame—who set their mind on earthly things.”
The Spirit of Prophecy says, “Medical missionary work is… to be connected with the gospel ministry. It is the gospel in practice, the gospel practically carried out.” CH 532 soon there will be no work done in ministerial lines except medical missionary work.” CH 533
In The Adventist Health Advantage - Living longer, living better. Dr. Fraser says, “What Adventists received more than 140 years ago was indeed a remarkable gift that is increasingly being validated by science. There are more than 300 peer-reviewed scientific pages in the medical literature on Adventist health.”
Our challenge is not only to be health reformers. We are to integrate health ministry in all its forms with the gospel so that it reaps a harvest of souls.
